Baylis Court's first ever Lower School Arts Showcase will be on Thursday. The Music Department will be making a huge contribution to this and we have some fantastic acts lined up. We'll be uploading performances to NUMU after the event. A huge 'well done' to the Arts College Choir for their fantastic performances in assembly this week. Keep up the good work! Finally, farewell to the Year 11 students. Their compositions and performances can be found on their NUMU pages - well worth a look.

It's been quite a while since we've had a blog update at Baylis Records. It just goes to show how much goes on in our department! So, a quick summary of what's happened since November... 'The Wiz' was a huge success in December. Miss Bennett joined the Music Department as a Music Teacher and has worked particularly closely with Y7 students that have opted to learn the Violin. Mr Canniere also joined the department working as our Brass Specialist. Most of his time has also been spent with Y7 students but he's been a regular presence in Y11 lessons and Baylis Records. Miss Bennett and Mr Canniere have both contributed videos to our YouTube channel www.youtube.com/bayliscourtmusic As mentioned in November, we had experienced quite a few technical problems preventing us from uploading material to NUMU. Since then, however, all problems have been resolved and our students have uploaded some fantastic music. Check out our simultaneous Fresh Five entries from Kuranizzle and Soulish (with 'When it Rains' and 'Single Laides' respectively), 'We Share the Same Space' from Octive8, 'Don't Stop Believing' from the Arts College Choir, 'Cross My Heart and Hope to Die' from Dreamlessfantasy, a whole host of uploads from shi…x, 'Man in the Mirror' from miziam and 'On the Flight' from hart. There's a whole load more of fantastic tracks on there too - far too many to mention! We've also had some local Heads of Music come into the school to watch a Year 10 and Year 7 lesson to look at how we're integrating Musical Futures and Wider Opportunities into our curriculum. As always, our students did us proud and showed just how professional they can be. Mr Wasiq left Baylis Court just before Easter to start as a Music Teacher at Cranford School. We wish him the best of luck and thank him for all his work during his time at Baylis Court. Mr Rhead and I have been working on a documentary about the Music Department to give to Musical Futures so that other schools can see what we have learnt in our first year delivering nothing but Musical Futures (and Wider Opportunities) style lessons. Thanks to everyone that has been involved so far. We'll post a link to the finished documentary here. Coming up this half-term, we have the GCSE Leavers Concert, the Year 9 Battle of the Bands and Music workshops for the Arts Award students. As always Baylis Court's Music Department is going to be a VERY busy place! |
